Time For Me to Get Back to Basics

Do you ever have those moments when you feel you are going in 73 different directions at once?

Ok, so that's probably not a necessary question to ask these days. I suppose a better question would be Do you have this grand list of things you want to do, you start on something, get sidetracked into doing something else, which leads to something else (all of which you do want to take part in), and in the end - get nothing done? (Um. me neither. I was just checking).

Ok, just kidding. Same here. But here is what I have learned, (probably again for the 73rd time), is to just get back to basics of what and why you started it in the first place and connect that to who you are.

These thoughts don't necessarily come from the judges on American Idol (though in a way they do), but they come from 2 friends of mine who have been there over the years encouraging me (and just possibly me them).

Terry Riffey of Terrific Yorkies and Larry L. Nichols of Word and Web Wiz have advised me on various occasions of the advice 2 paragraphs ago.

Terry has always brought up his favorite word on a nearly daily basis. BASICALLY, it comes down to this. Get back to basics. Start Simple. Focus (That's favorite word #2) on what you are doing. See what happens from there. (One thing does lead to another, just make sure you have done a decent amount on the previous thing you were doing before getting too far along on that new found thing you could be doing.

Larry (and no, I don't think it was planned that Terry and Larry's names rhyme), continues to advise, compliment, hint at, make me focus and stay on track with who it is I am, what comes naturally, and not try to be what everyone else out there feels I should become. It's about being authentic (me using a big word there), and not forcing anything on anyone. Just letting who you are shine through. If they like it, fine. If not.... Ummmm, that's ok too.

It is from these 2 guys who I am crediting (not blaming) for my own redesign of getting back to basics, being me, not preaching the whole motivational thing on anyone. (maybe a tad of advice in one fashion or other along the way).

And with that, I tip my writing hat to these two friends of mine from over the years. Thank you.

Oh, by the way. To get your own "Writing Hat," just click here and you'll be taken to my little online shop.
